Over the last decade, Corlears has experienced a period of increased enrollment. After an in-depth strategic plan was initiated by the Board of Trustees and completed in 2005, it was concluded that the school needed more space for its growing
population and the addition of the fifth grade.
In 2008, the school purchased
an adjacent townhouse to make these expansion plans a reality. Soon after the
acquisition, a capital campaign to support the expansion project was launched
in fall 2008.
The first
phase of the expansion project calls for an additional classroom for the fifth
grade, enlarged classrooms for our oldest students, new classrooms for foreign
language, music, and learning support. Included in these plans are a new,
spacious lobby which is wheelchair accessible, an elevator, community space on
each floor, and an enlarged art studio.
The capital
campaign goal to finance the expansion project is $6 million. As of summer 2011,
the school has $1.5 million to go to reach its goal. Through the dedication of
our current parents, grandparents, alumni parents, alumni, foundations, and all
of the school’s constituencies, Corlears is confident that it will reach its
goal by spring 2012. Completion of phase one is planned for fall 2011.
