Development Program
The primary purpose of the Development Program
is to provide financial support to Corlears
School, to communicate
with members of the school community through the Annual Report
(1.3 MB Adobe Acrobat PDF document) and Alumni Newsletter, and to reach out
to former students and staff through alumni activities such as reunions and
gala events.
Fundraising
The commitment of trustees, parents, alumni, alumni
parents, grandparents, staff and friends through their extraordinary
generosity and involvement are important to Corlears. Support is lent in all
areas, from the Annual Fund and the Annual Auction Benefit to special
celebratory events and projects. Corlears gratefully acknowledges the
contributions of all those who are vital to each year's accomplishments.
Thank you one and all for your generosity to our school.
The Annual Fund is the most important source of general operating
support for Corlears
School, allowing us to
support institution-wide activities and to respond to critical funding needs.
Gifts received each year supplement the operating budget by helping to
support teacher salaries, tuition aid, classroom materials and trips, teacher
enrichment and professional development, maintenance of physical building,
and much, much more. The Annual Fund enjoys generous support from trustees,
current and past parents, alumni, grandparents, current and former faculty,
and friends.
Solicitations are made through a direct mail campaign in the fall, a Phonathon led by parent volunteers held in
October, and follow-up appeals sent throughout the school year. The Associates
Program recognizes leadership gifts to the Annual Fund of $1,000 or more.
Currently, 25 parents and grandparents have made generous contributions as
Associates. The school may also be eligible for Matching Gifts through your
or your spouse's employer, thereby increasing your gift total to the Annual.
The Annual Auction Benefit is a school-wide event to support the Teacher
Development Fund, the Tuition Aid Fund, and a Building Project on a
three-year rotating cycle. Chaired by parent volunteers and sponsored by the
Parents' Association, this fun-filled event features children's art projects
as well as many other goods and services donated by parents and local
businesses and merchants. The Development Office works closely with parents
in organizing this special evening.
Gifts and Grants provide an opportunity for members of the school
community and other private funders to support
special projects that enhance the school's educations activities and
programs. Projects that have been funded in the past include underwriting
teachers' travel to the Reggio Emilio Summer Institute, tuition aid,
computerizing the library catalog, purchasing new library furniture, and the
renovation of the art room, staff lounge and library expansion. For more
information about current projects, please contact the Development Office or
Head of School.
The Irene Neurath
Fund was established in 1998 to
honor the founding director of Corlears. On-going gifts to this fund support
in-service teacher training.
The Class Gift program honors members of the current graduating
class. Led by parents of graduates, support is given by parents and
grandparents for a new project each year.
Building the Endowment Fund
Corlears has a modest endowment. Building the
endowment fund is a high priority for the School. Gifts to the Endowment Fund
will help the school to provide a stronger, more stable financial base. For
Corlears, like many other independent schools that rely heavily upon tuition
revenue, a strong endowment provides the means to fund current expenses or
plan for future needs while reducing dependence upon tuition for basic
operating expenses. For more information, please contact the Development
Office or the Head of School.
Ways of Giving to Corlears
There are many ways of making a contribution
to Corlears School. They include:
Gifts of Cash may be made in the form of cash, by check, or by
using a major credit card. Check with your employer to determine whether your
gift can be increased through a Matching Gift Program.
Stocks, Bonds and Other Securities: Tax-deductible gifts may be made by donating
stocks, bonds or other securities held by the donor. Gifts of appreciated
stock may offer you important tax benefits. If you are giving stock, please
notify the Business Office for how to transfer stock to Corlears.
A Bequest in your will (with Corlears School
named as a beneficiary) can ensure the future of our school. Donors can
choose to leave either a percentage of their estate or a fixed dollar amount.
Please check with your financial advisor and legal counsel for guidance.
Memorial and Honor Gifts: Gifts can be given in memory of a friend or loved
one, in honor of a birthday, anniversary or other significant event. A
certificate of acknowledgment will be sent to the honoree if you so desire.
In-Kind Gifts: The school is able to accomplish its goals through
the generous donation of in-kind gifts and services for a wide range of
activities. If you or your business wish to donate
goods or services to Corlears, please contact the Business Office.
Matching Gifts are now offered by many companies that will match
gifts made by current and/or retired employees or their spouses. A matching
gift can increase the size of your gift and benefit the school. Please check
with your company's Human Resources or Personnel Office.

Alumni Program
Corlears is in the process of developing and
expanding its alumni relations and outreach activities. Our goal is to
encourage communication between alumni with each other as well as with the
school through a variety of social activities and publications. In fall 2000
we published our first Alumni Newsletter. We will hold annual reunion
activities, establish an Alumni Council, and be in touch on a more regular
basis. All of this will take time, patience and your input. If you are
interested in becoming involved, please contact the Development Office or
Head of School.
Request for Information
We'd like to hear from you! The Alumni Newsletter features a Notes Section.
Tell us what you've been doing. And photos are welcome, too.
